Local fireworks and Fourth of July activities



The city will have a fireworks show after Wednesday night’s Lake Erie Crushers game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. at All-Pro Freight Stadium. There will be a pregame party 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The tailgate party and buffet-style meal is $12 per person in advance and $15 day-of-the-game. Avon Lake

There will be fireworks at dusk Tuesday at Weiss Field at Moore and Webber roads. The holiday festivities include music and other activities starting at 6:30 p.m.


There will be a parade and fireworks Wednesday in the village. The parade starts at noon from Reservoir Park with lineup beginning at 11 a.m. Fireworks will be that evening.


Portfest at Black River Landing, which will include music by Rare Earth is 3 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. Fireworks are at 10 p.m. For more information, call the Lorain Port Authority at (440) 204-2269.

North Olmsted

The Independence Day celebration in North Olmsted begins 10 a.m. Wednesday with a bike decorating contest. Everyone rides away with a prize. The parade follows at 10:30 a.m. The route is from the North Olmsted Police Department parking lot on Dover Center Road, down Lorain Road and on to North Olmsted Park, 28114 Lorain Road.

Free hotdogs and beverages will be available at the picnic in the park. There also will be an inflatable slide and bounce house, as well as carnival games. Register for the bike contest by calling the recreation center at (440) 734-8200.

North Ridgeville

The city’s annual July Fourth gala, which is tonight, is being moved to Victory Sports Park for safety reasons and to better handle crowds. The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with activities including a children’s play area, music and concession wagons. A $35-per-person VIP tent will sport a barbecue buffet, cornhole tournament, and other activities.

Fireworks will be held at dusk. People are asked to bring their own chairs and blankets. Victory Sports Park will provide restroom facilities. Tickets to the VIP party can be ordered by calling (440) 506-7691.


Fireworks are at dusk at Hamilton Street Recreation Park Wednesday in Oberlin. Concession stands offering snacks and light supper items will be available beginning at 6 p.m.

Starting about 6 p.m., Hamilton Street will be one-way-only westbound. People may park in the Hamilton Recreation Complex parking lot and at Splash Zone (after it closes) until those lots are full and people are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool.

The rain date is Friday.


The 93rd annual Rochester homecoming will be Wednesday at Eagle Street Park and Fire Station. The event begins at 8 a.m. when the food tent opens. Parade registration is 9 to 10:15 a.m., and the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. The Historical Society will host an open house noon to 5 p.m. There will be contests for adults and children of all ages at 4 p.m. and bands at 4:30 p.m., rides and games at 5 p.m. and fireworks at the close of the evening. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.


Fireworks in Wellington at the Lorain County Fairgrounds take place at dusk tonight.

First, there will be an old fashioned ice cream social at 6 p.m. today near Wellington Town Hall at state Routes 58 and 18, followed at 7 p.m. by a patriotic concert by the Patriots Symphonic Band, with 70 volunteer musicians from 23 Lorain County communities.
