ELYRIA – Former Lorain Service Director Robert Gilchrist has been indicted on four felony counts of illegal voting.
Gilchrist, 42, was booked into the Lorain County Jail this morning on the charges which center on allegations he voted in the wrong place in elections in November 2009, May 2010, November 2010 and May 2011.
The Lorain County Board of Elections forwarded its investigation into where Gilchrist voted to prosecutors in August 2011 after Lorain resident Denise Caruloff raised questions about where he lived and where he was voting.
Gilchrist purchased a home on Fields Way in the city’s 8th Ward in August or September 2009, but continued to vote in the city’s 2nd Ward for four more elections. He had previously lived in a Broadway apartment in the 2nd Ward.
Gilchrist, who was fired as director of the Lorain County Community Action Agency in October 2011, has previously said he voted where his driver’s license said he lived and never did anything intentionally wrong.
