Write-in candidate defeats incumbent in Rochester

ROCHESTER — Mayoral write-in candidate Kathryn Frombaugh collected 60 percent of the vote and defeated incumbent William Spicer, according to unofficial election results.

Frombaugh collected 42 write-in votes as compared to 28 for Spicer, whose name was on the ballot.

Frombaugh, 32, said she went door-to-door to campaign as a write-in candidate. She cites her life-long residence in southern Lorain County as the primary reason for her win.

“I think it’s because of belonging in this community, and people feel like I fit in,” Frombaugh said.

Frombaugh has been a practicing attorney in Wellington since May 2011. She served on the Lorain County Farm Service Agency from 2000 to 2011 and the Oberlin Municipal Court in 2010.

Budget concerns are a top priority for Frombaugh.

“I will be educated and prepared to represent the village as financial situations arise,” she has said.

Spicer has been mayor of Rochester for the past six years. He is retired from Ford Motor Co., and currently works seasonally for Clare-Mar Lakes RV Center Parts Department. This was his second run for mayor.

Spicer declined to comment Tuesday.
