Ralich gets 60 days in jail

ELYRIA -- Mark Ralich, the 21-year-old Elyria driver who survived a weekend crash that left another man dead, was sentenced this morning to 60 days in the county jail on an unrelated case.

Ralich has not been charged in connection with Saturday's crash, which left 18-year-old Andrew "A.J." Vincent dead and Elyria police have said the incident remains under investigation.

During today's court appearance, Elyria Municipal Court Judge Lisa Locke Graves imposed the maximum sentence she could on an underage consumption arrest from 2009.  She said that Ralich, who had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to undergo court-ordered alcohol treatment, had three chances to avoid incarceration and failed to live up to the conditions the judge imposed.

Ralich was arrested Tuesday at his home, but posted bond. His attorney, Mike Camera, had asked Locke Graves to impose house arrest instead of jail time because of injuries that Ralich sustained in the crash.

He said his client, whose face was battered during his court appearance, is taking pain medication for his injuries, including pins that doctors had to place into his leg. Ralich limped into court on crutches.

Police have said Ralich was driving the Chevy Malibu that slammed into the Ford Focus Vincent was driving.
