ELYRIA – At least two people – and maybe three – were injured Wednesday afternoon after a fight involving teens at two local apartment complexes.
One person was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with injuries from the ruckus, according to Elyria Police Lt. Phil Hammond.
Another teen was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.
“There appeared to be two to three victims,” Hammond said.
The episode, which literally spread across town, began when a number of Elyria police units converged on the South Park Apartments at 1864 Middle Ave. about 4 p.m. after receiving calls about a large disturbance involving an unknown number of people.
About 20 minutes after the episode on Middle Avenue ended, police were again called out, this time to the EMH emergency room, which had locked its doors after two groups of teens showed up and argued outside.
Police quickly dispersed the groups.
Hospital personnel said no one from either group entered the hospital, and there were no problems inside.
“This situation is still a moving thing,” Hammond said. “It reportedly began at Wilkes Villa, and then traveled to 1864 Middle Ave. before continuing at the hospital. We’re still putting it together.”
A group of young boys at the South Park apartments indicated there had been recent problems between “certain individuals” at the Middle Avenue complex and the Wilkes Villa apartments.
