NFL Draft Day 3: Browns finally make pick, take Notre Dame safety Jamoris Slaughter

BEREA – After two trades and four hours, the Browns drafted Notre Dame safety Jamoris Slaughter in the sixth round, No. 175 overall.

Slaughter suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the third game of 2012. He graduated and is working on a master’s degree.

Slaughter (6-foot, 195 pounds) has position versatility, playing cornerback, safety and linebacker at Notre Dame. The Browns have a potential opening at free safety, where Tashaun Gipson is penciled in as the starter.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, who broadcasts Notre Dame games, called Slaughter a “really good story.”

“This is true value for the Cleveland Browns,” Mayock said. “It’s an excellent pick.”

Earlier Saturday, the Browns traded their fourth- and fifth-round picks for third- and fourth-rounders in 2014.
