Weather threatens, but parties go on in Tampa

The Floridians seem to be taking the weather in stride. Sand bags are set, shutters are up. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day. A little windy and a bit of rain here and there was all. There was a brunch hosted by Victory Solutions and the Cuyahoga County Republican Party from 11 a.m. - 2.p.m. Sunday.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel delivered a warm welcome and inspiring address along with Bill Kristol, founder and editor of The Weekly Standard. We visited Clearwater beach during some free time until boarding a bus at 5:15 p.m. which took us to beach party hosted by Speaker Boehner.

Security is pretty impressive. Police cars are posted at close intervals the entire bus routes when we are being transported. I notice that oncoming traffic is either rerouted or held when the buses are moving the delegation. We have to produce a photo ID and delegation credentials for every event.

Upon returning to our room this evening we found invitations to another event hosted by Governor Kasich had been delivered to delegates.

The convention officially begins today. Right now we expect to roll call about 2300 delegates and immediately recess until Tuesday. But if the weather does not worsen, that could change. The level of organization and use of technology makes even the major changes a breeze. We are constantly updated by text - even reminded when the buses are about to leave.

As I write this, I am watching CNN waiting for the interview with JoAnn Davidson that was taped earlier today. It is so funny. The news shows Convention protesters. I don't know where they are finding them. In all of the pre-convention events we have only seen one lone fellow standing along the road in a purple bathrobe holding a single sign.
