VIDEO: Lorain County Fair rooster-crowing and turkey-calling contests

WELLINGTON — Jadeyn Dickel, 8, of Vermilion is soft spoken — until you ask her to demonstrate her rooster-crowing skills.

Jayden, a third-grader at Firelands Schools, blew away the competition, winning today's Lorain County Fair rooster-crowing contest and a big trophy to take home.

"I was surprised," Jayden said of the win.

Jayden said she's practiced a lot for the competition but couldn't say specifically what her strategy is.

She plans to take her trophy home, where she plans to display it on top of the TV.

In the turkey-calling contest, Amelia Dunwoodie, 13, of Wellington took top honors.

Amelia said she competed in turkey calling at last year's fair but didn't place. She said she practiced "about two minutes" for this year's competition.

Amelia is busy at the fair — she shows horses, pigs and turkeys — all of which she got high marks.
