ELYRIA — The city’s efforts to pass a 0.5 percentage point income tax increase is coming to the people with a series of town hall meetings to be held across the city.
The goal over the next three weeks is to hold at least one town hall meeting a week, said Councilman Kevin Brubaker, D-at large, who also serves as the campaign chairman.
“We want to hit the east, west and south sides of town before Nov. 3,” Brubaker said. “We are going to focus on the income tax and answer questions from residents.”
The first meeting will be 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane.
All residents are invited to attend.
With a projected $4.3 million deficit looming for next year, city officials have said passage of the tax is the only way to ensure the continuation of city services without layoffs.
Times and locations of future town hall meetings have yet to be determined.
