Officers shoot dog while serving warrant

VERMILION - Police were forced to shoot at a pit bull Saturday evening when it charged officers who were there to serve an arrest warrant at an Avon Drive residence.

Vermilion police and county sheriff's deputies fired four rounds at the dog "before it turned back to the house," Vermilion police said in a press release.

The dog suffered a flesh wound on a hind leg and was treated by its owner.

Daryl Young, 19, was then arrested by county sheriff's deputies on charges of receiving stolen property and obstructing official business.
