ELYRIA — Elyria police have talked to some individuals who were in the house where 17-year-old Charles “Chuckie” Howard was shot to death but won’t disclose what they had to say about the killing.
Elyria police Lt. Andy Eichenlaub said police still are gathering evidence and analyzing witness statements in the teen’s death.
“We have placed some people in that house,” Eichenlaub said. “We’ve had an opportunity to talk to those people.”
Charles was shot once in the chest on Aug. 19 inside a home at the corner of Taft and Hayes avenues and likely died instantly, according to the county coroner’s office.
Meanwhile, police have made just one arrest in the case. Alverno Howse Jr., 19, of Elyria, was indicted on a tampering with evidence charge stemming from Howard’s death.
Last week, Lorain County Prosecutor Dennis Will declined to say what evidence Howse was accused of tampering with at the scene of Howard’s shooting, but the tampering charge carried a firearms specification.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at (440) 323-3302.
