The Indians just might be able to re-sign ace Justin Masterson after all.
According to multiple reports, the right-hander, who could have potentially netted a lucrative, multiyear contract on the free-agent market next season, is willing to sign a shorter deal to remain in Cleveland.
Masterson’s agent Randy Rowley confirmed as much to multiple media outlets.
Masterson has said from the start of camp that he preferred to sign with the Indians. He avoided arbitration to sign a one-year contract worth $9.7625 million in February.
In his second full season as Cleveland’s No.1 starter, Masterson went 14-10 with a 3.45 ERA in 32 games (29 starts). He turns 29 on March 22.
