Indians notes: Ryan Raburn headed to disabled list?

CLEVELAND -- A strained right calf has sidelined Ryan Raburn, and now Cleveland’s bench player extraordinaire is dealing with a sore heel on the left side as well.

Positive results returned from an MRI performed on Raburn’s calf, but he has played just once since Aug. 13. The Indians are hopeful that Raburn can return for the start of a six-game road trip through Atlanta and Detroit on Tuesday. If he is unavailable, he will likely be forced to the injured list.

Remaining injury-free for much of the year, Raburn has provided a significant boost off the bench, batting .272 with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs over 71 games. He entered Saturday night leading the Indians in homers and among the American League leaders in RBIs per at-bat.

(bullet) There is better news on the Corey Kluber front, with the right-hander continuing to progress ahead of schedule from a right finger sprain. He is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session since the injury on the off-day Monday.

“He’s doing really well,” manager Terry Francona said. “The doctor looked at him and gave him the thumbs up.”

If all goes well, Kluber (7-5, 3.54 ERA) could return to the rotation by mid-September.

(bullet) Brett Myers (right elbow inflammation) has returned to the minor league rehab circuit, where he made his first appearance Saturday since June 27.

Myers, who is still considered a bullpen option when rosters expand in September, recorded just one out in Double-A Akron’s 10-2 loss to Binghamton. He allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits.
