WASHINGTON, Pa. — Andrew Davis and Jason Taylor homered for Lake Erie at Consol Energey Park on Sunday, but the long balls weren’t enough as the Crushers fell 6-5 to the Washington Wild Things.
It was their second straight one-run loss.
Jereme Milons and Davis singled to start the sixth inning. Kellen Kulbacki grounded to Scott Lawson at second. Lawson stepped on the bag to retire Davis, but his throw was wild, allowing Milons to score.
Later, Taylor smashed his first homer of the season, a two-run shot to give the Crushers a 3-1 lead.
In the eighth, Davis hit a two-run homer (his seventh of the season). It tied the game at 5.
The Wild Things took the lead for good on a single by Blake Ochoa which scored Eric Stephens.
Sheffield Lake native Steve Grife (1-0) pitched the eighth for Washington to earn his first victory of the season.
Davis had his second straight three-hit game, going 3-for-5. He was a double short of the cycle. He extended his on-base streak to 21 games.
