NORMAL, Ill. — Lake Erie’s Paul Fagan and Normal’s Bobby Prichett engaged in a pitchers duel Thursday night, and Prichett’s CornBelters came away with a 2-1 victory at The Corn Crib.
It was the Crushers’ fourth one-run loss in their six-game road trip, and their fifth loss in their last six games.
Fagan (0-3) allowed just a pair of hits over the first four innings, while Prichett (2-1) allowed three hits and a walk. Both teams scored their runs in the fifth inning.
Lake Erie (7-11) got on the scoreboard first when Joel Collins led off with a double down the left-field line, moved to third on Zac Messer’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Chris Luick’s two-out single to center field.
Scott Houin and Andrew Davis were the only Crushers to reach base more than once. Each batter went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Davis extended his hitting streak to seven games, and has reached safely in all 18 games.
