Tianna Madison easily advanced to the semifinals of the 100-meter dash Thursday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Madison, a 2003 Elyria High graduate, finished third in her heat with the eighth overall fastest time of 11.41 seconds. Sixteen athletes (top three in each heat and the next seven fastest times) moved on to today's semifinals at 5:55 p.m. The finals are set for 8:04.
LaShaunte'a Moore, running in the third heat with Madison, had the fastest time at 11.26, followed by Alexandria Anderson (11.29) and Allyson Felix (11.32). Anderson ran in the first heat and Felix the second.
Madison competes in the long jump on Saturday at 2 p.m. She won the world championship in long jump in 2005.
