Browns extras

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers QB

He owns Charlie Frye and the Browns. He didn’t lose to Frye through college and is 6-0 vs. the Browns.
He led a fourth-quarter comeback last year at Cleveland Browns Stadium and threw a career-high four touchdowns Sunday. He was 12-for-23 for 161 yards and a 114.3 rating. The Browns got steady pressure on him, but he made quick decisions and only took one sack for 2 yards. The Browns may regret drafting Kellen Winslow and passing on Roethlisberger for another decade.

Romeo Crennel, Browns coach

He fumbled the quarterback situation throughout the preseason, and after one game it’s as murky as ever. He also waited too long to sign a replacement punter this week, which jumped up and bit him on the play that set the tone for the game.
Crennel has five weeks to right the ship.

Paul Ernster picked a bad time to drop his first snap.

Signed Saturday to replace injured punter Dave Zastudil, Ernster dropped the snap on the fourth play of the game — then said afterward that was the first time it’s happened to him. He managed to get off a 15-yard kick, which netted 5 yards after a penalty. The Steelers scored a touchdown four plays later and the Browns never recovered.

10.0  -- Charlie Frye’s passer rating before he was yanked in the second quarter.

“I’m in shock myself. I did not expect this. We did not expect this.” — Browns receiver Braylon Edwards

Ben Roethlisberger threw four touchdowns and posted a 114.3 rating — and his receivers dropped a handful of passes. Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson aren’t the answer.

Frye and Anderson were sacked six times, but the line doesn’t deserve all the blame. Pittsburgh ran and threw successfully.

Defensive line

Aaron Smith helped set the tone with a sack of Frye on the third play.

Akron native James Harrison had a sack, a quarterback hurry and seven tackles. James Farrior and Clark Haggans added sacks.

The Browns gave up four touchdown passes. Enough said.

Special teams

Cleveland punter Paul Ernster dropped the first snap and looked shaky all game. Pittsburgh’s Daniel Sepulveda downed 4-of-6 inside the 20.
Edge: Steelers

Mike Tomlin is the first Steelers coach to win his first Browns game. Romeo Crennel is 0-5 vs. Pittsburgh. Who’s got a brighter future?
