BROWNS UPDATE: QB Charlie Frye will make his second straight opening-day start after beating out Derek Anderson in the preseason.
• Anderson will probably be the backup, but Crennel won’t announce his choice between Anderson and rookie Brady Quinn until this morning.
• Free-agent signees RB Jamal Lewis, G Eric Steinbach, G Seth McKinney, DE Robaire Smith and LB Antwan Peek are expected to make their Browns debuts.
• Rookies LT Joe Thomas and CB Eric Wright will start.
• CB Leigh Bodden will start despite getting arrested at the airport Wednesday night. He went to college at Duquesne in Pittsburgh.
• In three games vs. the Steelers, WR Braylon Edwards has 13 catches for 287 yards and a TD.
• WR Joe Jurevicius had his only 100-yard game last year in a 27-7 loss to Pittsburgh. He had seven catches for 111 yards.
• CB Daven Holly had two interceptions in a 24-20 loss to the Steelers, including a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown.
• Jurevicius, LB Willie McGinest, LB Andra Davis, C Hank Fraley and K Phil Dawson were voted captains. TE Steve Heiden and S Sean Jones are co-captains.
• The Browns are 27-27 on opening day, 12-14 at home.
STEELERS UPDATE: They’ve split four openers with the Browns.
• QB Ben Roethlisberger is 75-for-122 for 1,088 yards with five TDs and five INTs in five games against the Browns. He had a 100-plus rating in three of those games. He’s 29-11 in his career as a starter.
• WR Hines Ward is the team’s all-time leader in receptions with 648. He’s second with 8,005 receiving yards.
• WR Santonio Holmes, in his second year out of Ohio State, has moved into the starting lineup. He had nine catches in two games vs. the Browns last year.
• LB James Harrison, an Akron native, moved into the starting lineup after the departure of trash talker Joey Porter.
• Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is in his first year after three years as receivers coach. He was the coordinator in Cleveland under Butch Davis from 2001-03.
• Rookie Daniel Sepulveda takes over at punter for Chris Gardocki. He’s a 6-foot-3, 230-pounder from Baylor and averaged 45.5 yards in the preseason.
