PRACTICE: Today 8:45-10:45 a.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m.WHAT HAPPENED: The Browns worked on a number of game situations in a two-hour indoor practice, including how to rush to the line of scrimmage and quickly run a play. They also ran 11-on-11 sets with the offense backed up to the goal line.
QB DERBY: Charlie Frye wasn’t great, but he was the best of the bunch on a very rough day. Derek Anderson nailed an electrical box high on the fieldhouse wall while throwing a sideline pattern. Brady Quinn’s passes were fired with too much zip for his receivers, while Ken Dorsey was picked off by Eric Wright in the middle of the field.
SITTING OUT: Defensive end Simon Fraser (buttocks) is out several days, while guard Fred Matua (ankle) will miss the next week. Middle linebackers Leon Williams (knee) and Andra Davis (ankle) are also sidelined.
CAMPER OF THE DAY: Running back Jamal Lewis went airborne and forward in a non-contract drill after colliding with a defensive lineman. The former 2,000-yard rusher also made a number of sharp cuts and hit the hole quickly on carries.
PLAY OF THE DAY: Wide receiver Kendrick Mosley boxed out secondary starters Brodney Pool and Eric Wright to catch a 45-yard pass in the end zone from Ken Dorsey.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “However it unfolds, it unfolds. Everyone is looking forward to finding out who is going to be the guy.’’ — Tight end Steve Heiden on the ongoing quarterback carousel.
