Mary Ellen Novak (nee Bigrigg), 94, of Oberlin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Welcome Nursing Home following a full and meaningful life. She was born December 29, 1924 in Morgantown, West Virginia. Mary was raised in Pennsylvania before moving to the Amherst area in 1960.
Her primary focus in life was that of a homemaker. Mary was an active member of Family Fellowship Foursquare Church in Amherst, where she taught Sunday School. She was a faithful Christian who loved her Lord. Prior to her marriage she worked at Pic-N-Pay, RCA and home care. She loved cooking and baking and owned her own cake business.
Survivors include her son, Scott D. Novak and his wife, Pam of Amherst and her granddaughter, Sarah Novak.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, John Joseph "Jocko" Novak on November 14, 1999; her son, John Edmond; her brothers, Arthur, Edward, Henry and William and her parents, George and Sarah Bigrigg (nee Wilson).
Friends may call Monday, April 22, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Wickens of Church of the Open Door, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
