Lucy Rose Marie Hill-DeCarlo

Lucy Rose Marie Hill-DeCarlo, 86, of Avon, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. She was born November 13, 1932 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and was the youngest of seven, including brothers, Mike, Ralph and Freddie.

She was a feisty little Italian lady with a wicked sense of humor. She reminisced about past adventures which included going to "the club", drinking wine and making "sauce" on Sundays with Helen, driving fast and hot-wiring cars. Complicated, colorful, charismatic and mischievous are all perfect words to describe her. She was also smart, talented and beautiful.

In 1964, she was the Avon Heart Drive Chairman for the Lorain County Heart Association and the president of the St. Mary's Auxiliary #289 Knights of St. John. Lucy was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Lorain during the 1970's. She was a bookkeeper at Barr Supply, Elyria and a tax preparer in the 1980's.

She was a survivor and a character that made on impression on everyone who knew her. Lucy had a genuine love for animals and rescued numerous pets including dogs, cats and a duck named Quackers. She enjoyed spending time with her youngest granddaughter, Cassy (Cassandra Fleming) who brought a smile to her face and a spark to her eye, even though Alzheimer's robbed her of most of her memories.

Lucy is survived by her children, Debora Jendrasiak (Dan) of Erie, Pennsylvania, Anthony Hill (Rhonda) of Elyria and Holly Hill (Ron Pack) of Medina; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Margaret (nee Padula) DeCarlo; brothers, Frederick J., Michael and Ralph J. DeCarlo and sisters, Chesarina DeCarlo, Mary DeCarlo and Jae Patterson.

Her family will hold a private memorial service.

They request that if you would like to honor her memory to please donate to the Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or go online at
