Betty Jean Meier (nee Held), 100, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. Betty was born September 25, 1918 in Covington, Kentucky and shortly afterwards moved to Cincinnati. She later moved to Elyria where she spent the remainder of her life.
Betty graduated from Stephens University in Columbia, Missouri, with a major in English and the Littleford Nelson Business College in Cincinnati. She and her husband, Roy owned an accounting firm called Christian Accountants for over 30 years. She was an active member of LaPorte United Methodist Church and also was a member of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. She enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening and most of all, spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Sallie (Neal) Gimben; grandson, David (Amy) Matthews and three great-grandchildren, Iris, Violet and Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy and her parents, Eugene and Elsie Held.
At the family's request, private services were held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
