Joseph Matthews Roessler passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 15, 2019. Joe was born in Cleveland on November 27, 1926, the son of Joseph and Louise (nee Hacker) Roessler. He had three siblings, Eleanor, Elsie and William.

Joe was a proud Veteran who served in the 304th Signal Operations Battalion of the United States Army coding and decoding messages in the Pacific Rim. Joe attended Fenn College, where he met his wife, Helen (nee Sullivan) Roessler, whom he married on July 26, 1952. They moved to Geneva, Ohio in 1957, where, in their "spare time," Joe and Helen ran a 10 acre grape farm and helped Joe's mom operate the Trumbull Inn. Joe later forsook farm life and moved his family to Chardon, where Helen taught school and Joe focused on expanding J.M. Roessler & Associates, Inc. - the business he founded in 1963 and grew to have offices in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. While Joe accomplished success as a businessman, he felt he and Helen's greatest accomplishment was raising their four sons, Blake (Lyou Fu), Doug (Lisa), Gordon (Cheryl) and Kirk (Beth).

Joe instilled his boys with a love for the outdoors, teaching them to hunt and fish and spending summers with them on Pelee Island. Joe and Helen have eight grandchildren, Justin, Clayton, Emily, Ben, Nick, Abigail, Nayli and Sydney.

Our family would like to thank the staff at The Woods on French Creek and Hospice of the Western Reserve for providing Joe a comfortable and caring community during his last days.

Joe wished for family and friends to make donations in his name to The Salvation Army in lieu of flowers or offerings to his family.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 at 11 A.M. at The Avon United Methodist Church, 37711 Detroit Road, Avon. The family will receive friends a half hour before the service and immediately following will host a luncheon. There will be a private burial later that day at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights.

Misencik Funeral Home in Avon is in charge of arrangements.
