David T. Smith, 68, of Grafton, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at the VA Hospice Center in Cleveland, after a short illness.
He was born February 26, 1950 and retired in 2008 from Ford Motor Company in Lorain and Avon, where he worked for 35 years. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge in Elyria and Scottish Rite of Cleveland.
He loved spending time with family, especially his seven grandchildren (known to everyone as his Wolfpack), having breakfast with his Ford co-workers, lunch with his VA brothers, working on cars, fishing and going to Amish country.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Nelson) Smith; three children, Jennifer (Smith) and Jeffery Allen, Diane (Katie) Smith, David (Pete) and Renee (Gisewhite) Smith; seven grandchildren, Maddy, Jayden, Violet, Drue, JD (James-David), Jordyn and Jyanna and sister, Diane (Smith) and Donald Piazza.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ursula (Birdsong) Smith; brother, Harold Smith and sister, Pyllis (Smith) Chapman.
The family would like to thank the staff of the VA Hospice Center for their comfort, generosity and going above and beyond in their care of David.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 15, 2018 in the Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton from 2 P.M. until services at 4 P.M. with VFW Post #1079 providing Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the VA Hospice Center, in care of Charlotte Smith or the funeral home.
