Basil Modock, 85, of Elyria, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018 at Keystone Point in Lagrange. Mr. Modock was born July 27, 1933 in Walhonding, Ohio and made his home there since 1941.
He proudly served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of both the VFW, Post 1079 and the United Polish Club. He was a member of St. Jude Church and was employed as a machinist at Bendix Westinghouse. He both played and managed baseball and softball and loved nature and the outdoors, including camping, fishing and hiking.
Surviving him are four children, Michael (Tina Curtis) of Dunbar, West Virginia, Ann (Kevin Moran) Bronder and Becky (Bob) Ryan-Monschein, both of Elyria and David (Michelle) of Grafton; five grandchildren, Aleigha, Joey, Kelsey, Morgan and Brooklyn and sister, Ann Hulin of Medina.
Mr. Modock was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (nee Dumsky) in 2008; sister, Helen Hodge; four brothers, Thomas, Ronald, Emil and Michael and parents, Michael and Anna (nee Chippi) Modock.
Friends will be received at The Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 6 to 8 P.M. Closing prayers will be in the funeral home Friday, September 14, 2018 at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria, The Reverend Father John Seabold, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
