James F. Shebek, 88, of Elyria, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the O'Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville, following a short illness. He was born in Irwin, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1930 and moved to Elyria with his family in 1938.
James graduated from Elyria High School, Class of 1947. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. Following the war, James was employed at General Industry in Elyria for a few years, Insurance Salesman for Monumental Insurance in 1950-66 and self-employed in construction from 1966-90's. He was a 50+ years Mason with the Elyria Masons (formerly Frank S. Harmon Lodge), member of the Community of Faith Church in Elyria and also served 20 years in the Cleveland Yacht Club until 2013. He enjoyed reading, especially History and WWII and supported his grandson, Dustin during sporting events through school and college.
Mr. Shebek is survived by his daughters, Deborah L. Yancer of Sheffield Village and Marcia A. Thomson (Neil) of Sheffield Village; grandsons, Dustin J. Lambermeyer and Ryan P. Wirth and great-grandchildren, Derek, Rose, Chloe, Jeffrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jane Shebek (nee Cook); son-in-law, Donald Yancer and infant daughter, Pamela J. Shebek.
Friends may call 6 to 8 P.M., Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, September 14, 2018 at the funeral home. The Reverend Kathy Ketchum will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
