Raelene Muir (nee Oberla), 93, of Avon Lake, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Ames Hospice in Westlake, following a full and meaningful life. She was born August 29, 1924 in Lorain.
Raelene was raised in Lorain, graduating from Clearview High School with the class of 1942. She had lived in Lorain until 1955 before moving to Avon. She went on to make her home in the Amherst, Avon Lake area for the remainder of her life.
Her primary focus in life was to be a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Raelene was employed with Lorain County Children Services for 16 years as a group home manager. Her hobbies included traveling, camping, fishing and was an avid rook player.
Survivors include her sons, James Tonner Muir, Jr. (Diane) of Vermilion and Larry Alan Muir of Bay Village; her grandson, James Joshua Tonner Muir (Jordana) and her great-grandchildren, Tonner Joseph Muir and Kensley Catherine Muir.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, James Tonner Muir, July 15, 1971; her brothers, Russell and James; her sisters, Bernice Salyi, Aurilla Mannillo, Phyllis Lantz, Muriel Rose and Blanche Oberla; her "sister in heart," Glenna Smith, niece and her parents, Frank and Alvina Oberla (nee Cook).
Friends may call Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10 A.M. at the funeral home. The Reverend Larry Marshall, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
