Joseph N. Palmieri, 85, of Oberlin, died Thursday, June 21, 2018. Joe was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 24, 1932, where he attended Classical High School, then Brown University.
He graduated summa cum laude from Brown, with a Bachelor's degree in physics, then earned a Ph.D. in physics at Harvard University. Always a sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox, he harbored a boyhood dream of being a sportscaster, but grew up to be a physics professor instead. He taught physics at Oberlin College from 1961 to 2001, when he retired. With his wife, Sue, he enjoyed bridge, train trips and exploring our National Parks. Both have been active at Sacred Heart parish and in the Cleveland charismatic renewal for many years, Joe's faith was important to him. Since 2003, he had been an AARP Volunteer Tax Aide and has served as District Director of that program for Lorain County for the past seven years. He continued to follow sports. Those who worked with him knew Joe as kind, calm, wise and thoughtful.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, of 57 years; sons, Michael and John (Debby) and grandchildren, Rose and David. He will be missed.
