Teresa "Terry" Ann Sabiers (nee Beach), 87, of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at her home, following a sudden illness. She was born June 13, 1930 in Syracuse, New York. Terry was raised in Tory, New York before moving to Lorain in 1961. She had made her home in Amherst for the last 23 years.
Terry was a devoted homemaker. She was employed as a driver education instructor and a truant officer for Southview High School. Terry was a member of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Amherst, where she was active with the Mary Martha's. She was a member of the Amherst VFW and the American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary, where she served in multiple offices including president. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Stone City Chapter #325 in Amherst. Terry was the past president of the Senior Citizens of Amherst and the past president of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Parma. In her spare time, she volunteered her time at the Amherst Hospital.
Among those who will cherish Terry's memory are her sons, Thomas F. Sabiers (Margaret) of Olmsted Falls, Scott D. Sabiers of Cleveland; her daughters, Lorraine "Lori" R. Quinones (Alben) of Elyria and Elaine B. Serrano of Wilmington, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Jason Quinones, Angelique Degen (Charles), Michael Serrano (Arlene), Christopher Sabiers, Elizabeth Nutter (Franklin), Shannon Sabiers and Richard Sabiers and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Richard August Sabiers on October 6, 1999; her son, Richard Sabiers in 1980; her daughter, Margery Sabiers in 1965 and her parents, Giles and Margery Beach (nee Meehan).
Friends may call Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M. with a Eastern Star Service at 7 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 at 1 P.M. in the funeral home. The Reverend Brian Burke, Pastor of Community Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
