William S. "Bill" Petras

William S. "Bill" Petras, 72, of North Ridgeville, passed away unexpectedly at his residence Friday, December 29, 2017. He was born in Cleveland on February 12, 1945 and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for 41 years.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War. Bill was an assembler at General Motors in Parma and retired after 29 years of service. He also worked for North Ridgeville City Schools for 14 years as a custodian and at Russell Realty Company as a handyman. Bill also formerly owned and operated his own business, "William's Home Repair".

He faithfully attended Providence Church in Avon for many years and was recently baptized by his son there on March 17, 2017. He also formerly attended Abundant Grace Church in Oberlin. Bill was a long time member of the North Ridgeville Corn Festival Committee and was in charge of the festival's annual car show. He enjoyed snowmobiling and golfing.

Bill is survived by his son, The Reverend Mark Petras (Kendra) of Oberlin; two daughters, Renee Mele (Randy) of Amherst and Jennifer Petras of Studio City, California; seven grandchildren and sister, Bonnie Schmidt (Verlin) of La Mirada, California.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Patricia (nee Martinka) in 2007 and by his parents, Stephen and Vera (nee Jackson) Petras.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M., at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd. (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. The funeral service will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11 A.M., in the funeral home. Pastor Jim Bzdafka from Providence Church in Avon, will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Providence Church in Avon.
