Herbert Eugene Morrison, 80, of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. He was born September 13, 1937 in Moudsville, West Virginia. Herbert had made his home in Amherst since 1976.
Herbert proudly served in the United States Navy for 30 years, before retiring in 1986. He served as a Chief Warrant Officer 4, the highest rank achieved prior to his retirement after 30 years of service. Herbert then went to work for the DFAS for 10 years in Civil Service. Herbert traveled extensively while in the Military, but his roots were always with family.
He was an active member at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst. Herbert served as a Deacon, Church's treasurer and the adult Sunday School teacher. His life was spent not only serving his county, but serving the Lord, a heritage his family will always treasure. Herbert was an avid golfer and won several golfing trophies and shared his love of golf with his son and grandsons. He enjoyed bowling but eventually gave up his weekly Wednesday night bowling league when it interfered with his service to the Lord. Herbert was well loved by his family and all who had the privilege to get to know him and will be dearly missed.
Among those who will cherish Herbert's memory is his wife of 56 years, Zelma Morrison (nee Flynn); his daughter, Janie Morrison of Lorain; his son, Stephen Morrison (Michelle) of Lorain; his grandchildren, Chad Morrison (Lynn), Shelby Johnson, Koree Whyel, Brittany Kasperovich (Zack) and Stephen Morrison II.; his great-grandchild, Ezra; his brothers, Wilford F. Morrison, Jr. and Ronald D. Morrison, both of Belville, Ohio; his sisters, Carol Gossett of Mesquite, Nevada, Shelby Davis (Al) of Butler, Ohio and Ellen Groh (Rich) of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilord F. Morrison, Sr. and Wilma Louise (nee Oliver).
Friends may call Friday, January 5, 2018 from 5 until the time of the funeral at 7 P.M., at the North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake Street, South Amherst. The Reverend Jayson Samons, Pastor, will officiate. Private family burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery, Rittman.
