John L. Miles, 76, of Elyria, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born October 24, 1941 in Emmett, West Virginia. John had made his home in Elyria for over 43 years.
John proudly served in the United States Army for 3 1/2 years. He was employed as a pipe fitter at the Avon Ford Plant for 30 years before retiring in 2000. John was a former Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at College Heights Baptist Church in Elyria. He was an avid outdoor sportsman, who loved hunting and fishing. John loved spending time with his family at his farm in Kentucky. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Among those who will cherish John's memory is his wife of 55 years, Yvonne Miles (nee Sexton); his son, Jay Miles (Juanita); his daughter, Missie Lockridge all of Elyria; his grandchildren, Cody, Alexa, Sam and Chris; his brother, J.C. Miles (Linda) of Kingston, Tennessee; his sisters, Juanita Holbrook of Houston, Texas; Judy Mosier and Jackie Tolliver both of Grayson, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, J.R., Rod and Jim Miles and his parents, Garrett and Elizabeth Miles (nee Berger).
Friends may call Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 10 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 12 Noon at the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, 38550 Chestnut Ridge Road, Elyria. The Reverend Hetzel See, Pastor of River Life Church, in Loudonville, Ohio, will officiate. Burial will follow at New Russia Township, Oberlin.
