Helen Rickey, born in 1929, was reunited with her beloved husband, Stan Rickey, who welcomed her into Heaven Friday, November 3, 2017. Helen was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Elsie and Norman Stricker.
She graduated from East Detroit High School and Capital University before obtaining her nursing degree at Henry Ford Hospital. On vacation with friends in 1952, she met Stan Rickey, thus beginning an epic love story that would span five decades. Helen and Stan married in 1956 and welcomed four children.
Helen stayed connected to helping others as a 30 year volunteer at Saint Joseph and St. John Westshore Hospitals. Still, in spite of her nurses training, she believed that blackberry brandy could cure just about anything.
Helen will be greatly missed by her four children, David (Audrey) of Avon Lake, Susan Hatfield (Tim) of Winona, Minnesota, Carole Holowecky (Tim) of Avon and Paul of Grafton; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Ira John Stricker and Earl Stricker.
A visitation will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake from 5 to 8 P.M. A funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 32747 Lake Road, Avon Lake. The Reverend Jeff Steeber of the church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, Helen would have appreciated donations to Audrey' Army C/O the Alzheimer's Association, 23215 Commerce Park #300, Beachwood, OH 44122
