George Gnandt, 92, a resident of Penfield since 1939, passed away at home Saturday, December 17, 2017.
George was a graduate of Penfield High School, the class of 1941. During WWII, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Radioman 3C aboard the U.S.S. Manderson Victory, an ammunition supply ship, in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Area Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation-American Area medals.
He was an active member of two radio controlled model airplane clubs, had the amateur "Ham" Radio license W8AIK since he was in his teens, was a member of the VFW, NRA, and Farm Bureau. He served as Treasurer of the Keystone PTA and President of the Penfield PTA. He traveled to all the States and all the Canadian Provinces and made several trips abroad as well. He was an electrical contractor for many years. At 89 years old, he was still an active farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eleanor, children, Mark (Marianne) Gnandt, Karen (Clem) Napoli, Eric (Michelle) Gnandt, Kurt Gnandt; grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters in law, Esther (Jerry) Schaeffer and Eloise (and Elmer (deceased)) Toth and special cousin, Margaret Forester. He was preceded in death by his daughter Carmen Dudash.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 10 A.M. until the time of the 12 Noon service at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Burial will follow the service in Penfield Cemetery, followed by a time of fellowship and remembrance at the Penfield Community Room.
