Mary Therese Maiers

Mary Therese Maiers (nee Ostrom), 85, of Avon, formerly of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully Friday, August 15, 2014 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon. She was born April 19, 1929 in Hornell, New York.

Mrs. Maiers had been an Avon resident since 1991 and prior to that she resided in North Ridgeville for 36 years. She was a homemaker. She also worked as the head cashier at the former Northview IGA in North Ridgeville for 18 years and retired in 1991.

She was a member of St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church in Avon and was a former member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville, where she volunteered in many church functions for many years. Mrs. Maiers was also an avid baseball fan and she sang in the choir at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. Her greatest joy in life was to spend time with her beloved family.

She is survived by one son, James Maiers (Karen) of Sheffield Lake; two daughters, Joan Figueroa (Ron) of Lorain and Joyce King (Gordon) of Parma; two grandchildren, Tristan and Taylor; two sisters, Kathryn Becks of Middleburg Heights and Margaret Sapara of Lebanon, Ohio; three brothers, Burt "Tom" Ostrom of Eastlake, Roger "Ted" Ostrom of Springfield, Virginia and John "Jack" Ostrom of Cleveland; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, who passed away in 2008 on both Mrs. Maiers’ birthday and on their 56th wedding anniversary; by her parents, Burt and Marie (nee Robison) Ostrom; and by three brothers, William, Robert and Richard Ostrom.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 6 to 9 P.M. at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 9:15 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a 10 A.M. funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd., Avon. Reverend C. Thomas Cleaton, Pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avon.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
