Marjorie B. Rogers

Marjorie B. Rogers (nee Raptis), 88, of Wellington, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. Marjorie was born in Lorain on August 10, 1925.

Mrs. Rogers graduated from Lorain High School in 1943. She then attended the University of Michigan. On August 28, 1950, Marjorie married James W. Rogers. She was employed as an accountant at Invacare where she retired after 30 years of service.

Marjorie was an avid reader and enjoyed her daily visits to Herrick Memorial Library. She volunteered at the Lorain County Metro Parks, where she loved working with the children and walking the trails.

Marjorie taught her daughter and grandchildren that education was the most important gift of all. She started volunteering as a "Read Mother" when her grandchildren entered kindergarten and continued for the next 12 years at the Keystone and Wellington Schools. She was an enthusiastic advocate of education and exemplified life-long learning.

In her spare time, Marjorie enjoyed knitting and attended weekly quilting sessions with the Penfield Quilters at the Penfield Community Church. She was a member of the Wellington United Methodist Church and was inspired by the Bible study sessions.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Robert Bly of Wellington; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Parrish (Andrew) of Louisiana; grandson, Aaron Rogers Bly of Iowa; great-grandson, Evan Andrew Parrish and her brother, Bill Raptis of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents, Steve and Regina Raptis; her brother, Tom Raptis; and her sister, Athena Stewart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lorain County Metro Parks Wellington Reservation Visitors Center, 535 Jones Rd., Wellington, Monday, July 21, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Lorain County Metro Parks Wellington Reservation, 535 Jones Road, Wellington, OH 44090.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
