Thomas M. Campbell

Thomas M. Campbell, 81, of North Ridgeville, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Altenheim Shurmer Nursing Facility in Strongsville due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born March 13, 1933 in Wakeman. Tom had been a resident of North Ridgeville for over 30 years.

He graduated from East Tech High School in Cleveland in 1950. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1953 and then served in the Navel Reserves until 1957. Tom was retired from Research Associates in Westlake, where he worked as an investigator.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in North Ridgeville, where he taught Sunday school and was involved in the Clown Ministry. Tom was also well known at the church for his famous home made chicken soup which he made for different church functions. He loved the outdoors, animals, being near Lake Erie and lighthouses. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his beloved family.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" (nee Ferguson); four daughters, Sarah Campbell (Chris) of Parma, Kim Montagnese (Tom) of Amherst, Tammie Campbell (Al Riemer) of Fairlawn and Betsy Drennan (Harry) of Strongsville; one son, William "Bill" Campbell (Ashley), stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Key West, Florida; and by 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas M. Sr. and Viola (nee Wind) Campbell; and by one sister, Marilyn Sopko.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, 36300 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. Pastor Mathias Hauck will officiate. Interment will be at Put-in-Bay Island at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Altenheim Shurmer Nursing Facility.
