Margaret Jean Brandstadt

Margaret Jean Brandstadt (nee Lichman) died Friday, June 6, 2014. Born December 18, 1947 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, she was raised in Elyria, where she graduated from Elyria Catholic High School in 1965.

As a college student, she attended LCCC and University of Dayton. After graduating, she started her professional life as a Head Start teacher. In 1967, her life changed forever when she met Erich Brandstadt at a party, who instantly recognized her unsurpassed beauty and intelligence. She was then and throughout her life a woman of discerning taste, dedication to family, and unparalleled class. "Marti," as she was known to her friends and family, spoke her mind, which was pretty much always correct. She loved gardening, birds, crossword puzzles (at which she excelled) and parties. Marti was a fervent fan of the Indians, and a champion of animals, big and small. Her children will always remember her insistence on the importance of traditions, academics, and character. From her early married life, she was a warrior against the MS that plagued her, but never defeated her indomitable spirit. Above all, no one will forget the love she brought into our lives, and her utter devotion to her husband and children. Happily, before her death, she and Erich had a grand adventure, driving all over the country visiting family and old friends and exploring new places. She will be missed by her husband, Erich, their three children, Marcia Brandstadt (husband, Jae Amos and children, Jaedyn and Kendall), Jean Habermehl (her husband, Chris and children, Lauren, Caleb, Sarah, Heather, Ethan, Ryan and Sophie), Erich Brandstadt (and Emily Pregun); and family and friends that will forever remember her beautiful soul.

Friends may call Monday, June 9, 2014, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 P.M., at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Noon. 440-937-6175,
