He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Florence June (nee Prindle); sons, Mark (Mary) Gigliotti, James (Liliana) Gigliotti, John (Vicki) Gigliotti, Jerel (Diane) Gigliotti; daughters, Karen (Daniel) Byrne, Pamela (Randall) Brown, Patricia (Thomas) Harrison; siblings, Thomas Gigliotti and Grace Chapman; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Thomas and Grace Gigliotti; and son, Joel Gigliotti.
Jerome was born June 4, 1928 in Lorain and graduated from Clearview High School in 1946. He attended Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1953 and was a member of the Omega Tau Sigma Fraternity. He entered the United States Air Force in October of 1953 and served as a veterinarian at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas until October of 1955.
Jerome established the Amherst Animal Hospital with his brother, Thomas, in 1960 and was actively involved in the practice for 48 years. He had the pleasure of working with his son, Mark, who joined the practice in 1980.
Jerome enjoyed caring for the family homestead with his wife, June, at Sunnyside Farm, Vermilion for 37 years. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Amherst Noon Day Club. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for nearly 60 years, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many of those years. Jerome and June would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 7th.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, june 3, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M., at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Closing prayers will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Reverend Lawrence N. Martello, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made in memory of Jerome to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, OH 44001 or to St. Joseph Overnight Shelter, P.O. Box 766, Lorain, OH 44052.
