Homer Mason, 88, of Eaton Township, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, surrounded by his family, following a short illness. He was born March 18, 1926 in Millstone, Kentucky and lived in Ohio since 1955.
He retired after 35 years of service with General Motors. Homer served during WWII with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre and re-inlisted before the Korean War. He enjoyed camping, fishing and most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Beulah (nee Bates) whom he married May 28, 1956; his daughters, Sheila (Kim) Green of Nova, Ohio, Maggie (Robert) Schworer of Grafton; sons Donald (Emily) Mason of Grafton and John (Vicki) Mason of Vermilion. Survivors also include nine granschildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Fields of Kings Creek, Kentucky, Carrie Goodwin of West Milton, Ohio, Joann Craft of Millstone, Kentucky, Bernice Stornes of Brook Park; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie Bates; granddaughter, Jennifer; and several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Monday May 12, 2014, in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, from 3 until 7 P.M., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 11 A.M., with Pastor Darrel Deer, of the College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Brunswick. VFW Post #1079 will provide military honors.
