Fern Gardner (nee Smith), 97, of Avon Lake, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
As a young girl, Fern enjoyed playing softball, dancing, and working at the basket factory in Rocky River with her sisters. After she married in 1942, she enjoyed golf, bowling, baking, gardening, crocheting, and knitting, but most of all, she loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her adoring family. Fern was a very happy, positive, upbeat person with a great personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed by many.
Fern was a devoted wife of 70 years to the late Ferdinand; loving mother of Barbara Yencho (John), Susan Pentz (Jeff), Bruce (Robin), and Robert (Lynn); cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Bryan, David, Jeremiah, Jonah, Brett, Brandon, Michelle, Melanie, Andrew, and Daniel; dear great-grandmother of J.T., Elizabeth, Olivia, Savannah, Camden, Breanna, Makenzie, Madison, Carter, Brady, and Miles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Annie (nee Bell) Smith; sisters, Ivy Bliss (Roland), Gladys Randall (Ray), Beatrice Gardner (Carl); and brother, Gordon (Lydia).
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon. Funeral service will be 10 A.M., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the funeral home. Reverend Darrell Deer will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
