Stephen E. White, 60, of Amherst, died Friday evening, March 21, 2014. In recent years his health was declining, and he had struggled with several chronic illnesses.
Stephen went to grade school in Amherst, subsequently moving to Michigan, where he graduated high school. He returned to Ohio for college, graduating from Ohio University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He worked in the publishing field as a proofreader and editor. After additional college coursework, he entered the computer field as a technical writer. He wrote software manuals for firms in the Silicon Valley region of California through the 1980s and early 1990s.
He returned to Amherst to assist with the care of his parents, James and Maria, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his older brother, Karl, who died December 2012.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Charles) Bolt of Wellington, brother, James, Jr. of Elyria, brother, Robert (Violetta) of Springfield, Virginia, and sister, Barbara (Kevin) Leehey of Tucson, Arizona. He was an uncle of six nieces and was especially close to his niece, Erika White of Wellington.
No visitation is planned. Stephen requested cremation, which is entrusted to the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home of Amherst. No formal funeral service is scheduled, although the family is planning a farewell ceremony in the near future.
