Anthony Szymczyk, 88, of Elyria, passed away Saturday, February 8 , 2014 at Metro General Health Center of Cleveland. Tony was one of 13 children born to John and Julia (nee Pekiela) on January 13, 1926 in DePew, New York.
He moved to Ohio from Buffalo, New York, with the Ford Motor Co., retiring as a supervisor after 30 years. Anthony was a United States Navy veteran and served in WWII and the Korean conflict, earning five ribbons, eight battle stars and three medals.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cards, but mostly traveling with his wife Marilynn around the world visiting six of the seven continents. Tony was a member of the United Polish Club of Elyria, active member and past president of the former United Polish Club of Lorain, active member and 1st Warden in Polish Fishermans Club and past member of PLAV.
Survivors include his son, Wayne (Margaret); daughter, Antoinette (Bill) Ries; grandsons, BJ and Scott Ries; great granddaughter, Kennedy; sister, Marie Hoshino; sister-in-law/niece, Joann Beyer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Marilynn (nee Mohr); 11 brothers and sisters; and parents, John and Julia (nee Pekiela).
All services will be private at Resthaven Memory Gardens, where full military honors will be provided by VFW Post 1079.
