Jerry L. Butcher

Jerry L. Butcher, 77, of Wooster, entered into rest Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a lengthy illness from pulmonary fibrosis. Jerry was born in Weston, West Virginia on March 16, 1936 to Glen and Nina Mae (Riffle) Butcher.

He married Connie Weaver March 18, 1972, in Vermilion. She survives.

He started working for Lorain Products, which then became Reliance Electric, as a purchasing manager for 43 years. He also worked as a Policeman in Vermilion, from 1959-1979 and received a Certificate Of Merit as one of the founding patrolman of FOP #125 in Vermilion.

He was a patent holder for the improvement of copper windings for electric motors; a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster; supported and was very active with the local Habitat for Humanity; and supported Boys Village Network in many ways over the years. He was an avid football fan and was a passionate golf player. He also both worked and golfed at Hawks Nest Golf Course in Wooster.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Laura Harris of Elyria, Robert (Mary) Butcher of Dallas Fort Worth, Texas, Christine (Joe) Kukuczyka of Venice, Florida, Robert Schaffer of Barberton, SFC. (U.S.A. Ret.), Brian (Robin) Butcher of Elyria, Jerry Bruce Butcher of Lakewood, Gerri Lynn Bennett of Lorain, and Steven Schaffer of Lake Milton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, including Sgt. Robert Butcher, who served in Iraq and is currently in Afghanistan, Jason, Marcus, Jill, Eric, Marie, Rebecca, Rachel, Steven, Lucas, Bruce, and Amanda; nine great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Sharon (Edward) Stempowski of Vermilion and Barbara Woodhull of Lorain; his best friend, Don Drouhard of Wooster; and his faithful canine companion, "Toby".

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a nephew, Steve Woodhull; and a niece, Janice Peters.

A memorial mass will take place Tuesday, 1 P.M., at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster, with Reverend Father Stephen Moran as Celebrant. Family will greet friends following the mass. A private interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
