Thomas graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1964 and following high school, enlisted August 17, 1964, in the United States Navy during Vietnam, serving on the USS Haleakala. He was honorably discharged October 3, 1967. He married Angie (nee Nagy) on February 14, 1985. He worked for the Lorain City Police Department as a Patrolman for 25 years and was shot in the line of duty. Thomas was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign War, Amvets and Amherst Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Wii bowling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Angie DeNicola; children, Tom DeNicola of Atlanta, Georgia, Josh (Jacinda) DeNicola of Savanah, Georgia, Tony (Deanna) Phillips of Vermilion and Jonathon (Dora) Phillips of Sheffield Lake; sisters, Mary Ellen (Joe) Guerrieri, Peggy (John) Lukachko, Janice (John) Manecci and Chris DeNicola; brother, Dan (Chris) DeNicola; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Captain Michael T. and Dorothy (nee Yost) DeNicola.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 31, 2014, from 3 to 7 P.M., at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 12 P.M.
