She was born November 20, 1947 in Artemus, Kentucky. Shirley was raised in South Amherst and the Oberlin area, attending Oberlin High School. She graduated from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Practical Nursing, with the class of 1972. Shirley continued her education at Lorain County Community College, where she received her Associates Ddegree in nursing, with the class of 1990. She lived most of her life in Lorain before moving to Elyria, where she had resided until the time of her passing.
Shirley was employed as a registered nurse at the Grafton Correctional Institution for 17 years. She was previous employed at Fairview Hospital. She was a member of Cathedral of Life Church in North Ridgeville. Her hobbies included collecting dolls, and dancing, especially ballroom dancing.
Survivors include her son and his wife, David E. and Kim Villafanez of Antioch, California; her daughter and her husband, Stacey V. and Thomas Maggio of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Maeghan and Michelle Villafanez, Nicholas and Corinne Maggio; her brothers, Greg Marcum of Waco, Texas, Martin Marcum, John Marcum, both of Elyria; her sisters, Debra Linden and Linda Linden, both of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Marcum and Robert Marcum; and her parents, Martin Marcum and Ida Mae Turner (nee Partin).
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014, at 7 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
