Bruce R. Schuyler

Bruce R. Schuyler, 62, of Lorain, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at University Hospital in Cleveland. He was born April 12, 1951 in Hempstead, New York and had resided in the Lorain area since 1974.

Bruce graduated from Baldwin Senior High School in Baldwin, New York. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a gunnery sergeant during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Da Nang. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bruce worked at Engelhard Chemical Corporation (BASF) in Elyria as a chemical processor. He also served the city of Grafton as a part time police officer.

Bruce was an avid New York Yankees and New York Jets fan. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles and was a classic muscle car fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching his son’s baseball and football teams and fishing. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1301 in Lorain and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Annette Schuyler (nee Payne); sons, Kyle and Cory Schuyler; mother, Charlotte Schuyler (nee Kaminski) of Baldwin, New York; brother, Steven Schuyler (Patricia) of Rocky Ford, Georgia; sister, Linda Russell of Baldwin, New York; cousin, Jeff Lennox (Lee) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Schuyler.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 in the funeral chapel at a time to be announced. Burial with military honors will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
