Dorothy "Dottie" Thompson

Dorothy "Dottie" Thompson, 74, passed away at EMH Healthcare Tuesday, December 3, 2013, after a sudden illness, with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born in Lorain February 8, 1939, and remained a lifelong resident of Amherst. She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Welch and was married to her sweetheart and rock, Jim, until his passing in 1985. She held numerous jobs, but the job she loved most was being a homemaker. Dorothy was very proud of her Hungarian heritage and enjoyed listening to Kenny Rogers, walking her dog, Scottie, cooking, and baking. Her grandchildren knew her as "cookie grandma."

Many will remember Dorothy as a loving and caring friend with a huge heart. She did not have much, and what she did have, she was always willing to give away to anyone in need. She spent most of her time caring for others and often would forget about herself.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Bates of Wellington; son, Bill Thompson of Columbus; daughters, Judy (Ron) Baumann of Amherst and Theresa (Dan) Brown of Wellington; grandchildren, Monica, Jimmy, Hannah, Elliot, Amanda, Lindsey, Sadie, Corey, and Justin; great-grandchildren, Avery, Fynnley, Hunter, Harper, and Korie. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life will be at Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman, Friday, December 6, 2013, from 4 to 6 P.M., and a service to follow. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at the Camden Cemetery in Kipton.

The family also wishes to thank all of those individuals involved at EMH who cared for her.

"You shall live in the hearts of those who loved you and will thus never die or be forgotten."
