Bart W. Kraps

Bart W. Kraps, 53, of Wellington, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013, at EMH Healthcare, the result of a massive heart attack. He was born June 17, 1960 in Elyria, and was a lifelong Grafton resident.

Bart made many friends throughout his 35 year career at the BASF Corporation in downtown Elyria, where he currently worked as a waste coordinator. He learned from his parents at an early age what was important in life...Faith, Family and Friends. He learned about Faith in his younger years from being a lifetime member of LaPorte United Methodist Church and carried that faith all throughout his life. Bart graduated from Midview High School in 1978, where he loved making music with the high school marching band. He also loved the time he spent in Boy Scouts as a child and all the adventures it provided. An avid bird watcher, he learned all about birds through the Black River Audubon Society and all the field trips they organized. His favorite places were all the Lorain County Metro Parks. His passion was nature and all it provided, and most of all, he loved all of his family and friends. He will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Phyllis (nee Fisk); brother, Jeffrey (Linda) Kraps of Grafton; nephew, Greg Kraps; and niece, Laura Kraps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Norma Kraps; and a brother, Stuart Kraps.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 25, 2013, 4 until 7 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. A Memorial Service will be Saturday October 26, 2013, at 11 A.M., at the LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Rd., Elyria. The Reverend Jonathan McCleery, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions can be made to the LaPorte United Methodist Church, the Well-Help Food Bank, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH. 44090, or to the Lorain County Metro Parks, 12882 Diagonal Rd., LaGrange, OH 44050.
