Lillian Mary Rak

Lillian Mary Rak (nee Czarney), age 93, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013, at EMH Healthcare, following a short illness. She was born in Lorain and had resided in North Ridgeville the past 44 years.

Mrs. Rak graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and taught at Lincoln Elementary for Lorain City School 24 years, retiring in 1986.

One of her most unique qualities was how she drew others to herself. Everyone loved this special lady as she moved through her abundant activities, saying little of herself and listening a lot. She enjoyed being active with the North Ridgeville Senior Center, where she was involved with the Hope Bereavement Group. She also enjoyed bowling with friends, crocheting, reading, gardening and playing bingo.

Her marriage to Wences Rak, on August 8, 1939, began a romance that lasted 63 years. They were dedicated to God, the Catholic Church and raising their family of five children, Barbara (Louis) Russo of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Lawrence (Mary Kay) Rak of Avon, Norman (Linda) Rak, Connie (Patrick) Woodside and Andrew (Vanessa) Rak, all of North Ridgeville. She is also survived by her beloved 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; along with her only surviving sister, Marcella (Dennis) O’Connor of Amherst.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Czarney; two infant grandchildren, Lilly Batt and April Farina; and three sisters, Dorothy Maloney, Theresa Majoras and Marie Sands.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 16, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., at Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, N. Ridgeville, where the Knights of Columbus will lead a rosary at 7 P.M., Monday. A Prayer service will be held 9:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in the funeral home, followed by 10 A.M. Mass at St. Peter Church. Reverend Robert Franco, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Peter Memorial Fund, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville, OH 44039 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
